STORYBOARDING

Storyboards were a crucial step in my process of understanding how I wanted the film to look and how I wanted the audience to be guided throughout the film.

Visual Inspo Deck

I initially struggled to visualise how I wanted the film to look and understand the vision of the two co-project runners, Charlie and Emma.

However, by using film stills and getting images of visual inspiration we were able to more effectively unify our vision. I even took inspiration in composition through this process, such as in Saltburn’s centred framing. I used ShotDeck as a primary site for finding stills.

Shot List/Shooting schedule

With only three shoot days, having a clear and organised shooting schedule was crucial to making sure we didn’t run overtime.

LighTing Plans

Lighting plans were just as pivotal to making sure that shooting ran on time by providing a foundation for where all equipment needed to be set up. These were particularly helpful when shooting the first scene on the first day because I couldn’t be on set due to an in-class assignment.

However, I could provide and talk through my lighting plans to my camera team and acting D.P., Geoff O’Neil, so they could set up and film this scene how I had intended.

Location Recce

PRe-Vis

Having access to the space allowed me to pre-visualise some shots, allowing the team and I to see what does or doesn’t work.
